View Full Version : PCL XL Error
Have an HP Laserjet 4250n on the network. For the last 4 days whenever I try to print to it I get the following message on the paper:
PCL XL Error
Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: IllegalOperatorSequence
Operator: 0x1b
Position: 6
A search on Google did not help me resolve this problem.

Download a PCL 5 driver or Postscript (PS) driver. PCL 6 drivers are often the problem.
All,
I have a HP 5500DN CLJ. This printer came to me with print quality problems. Replaced Non-HP toner with HP ones and the print quality was repaired. Ran normal test pages (Printer Config, Menu Map) and finished with a Demo page. All printed fine except Demo.
Demo failed to print returning the folowing printed error: PCL XL error
Subsystem: Image
Error: Error Code 0x03
Operator: VendorUnique
Position: 1;10
I did a cold reset and forced calibration. Same error.
The printer wass NOT connected to a PC when this occured. I then connected it to a pc to see how it would print and each test page, (.pdf, .doc, power point and an image.jpg) all came out fine.
Any thoughts?

Don,
Sounds like a formatter problem.

Don, upgrade the firmware with the flash file found on drivers site at HP.
Where it asked for operating sys., scroll down to "other O/S"
Re-seat all chips, and the flash rom {square}.
Remove/re-seat/and/or replace Jetdirect card.
Try a soft NVRAM reset. NOT the NVRAM INIT. unless all else fails.
