Brother DCP 110C Ink cartridge issue

I keep getting an empty cartridge message. I've done: pulled all and reinstalled all cartridges, powered off, reinstalled, power on, said yes to question about changing cartridges...still a problem.

Have you called Brother?
You know, it's a $50 printer, what ever you pay to get it fixed you could have bought a new one

I absolutely am not going to pay $ get it fixed. I don't remember the procedures they made me go through to get it cleared but it seems like the cover being open and power off during a reinstall of cartridges is some sort of key to fixing it. I wish they would just write out the procedure and put it in their forum. This has happened before and I know it's happened to others.
