:confused: I am getting about a one inch deletion on the left side of the page.It is intermitten also so troubleshooting is dificult.

Sounds like it could be the contacts between the printer and the toner cartridge, check those and replace the cartridge. Maybe the Laser scanner? I haven't worked with many 4550s, since ours seem pretty rock solid.
