This Color LJ2550 has a problem with the carousel jumping out of alignment with itself by 2 to 4 teeth on the large carousel gear R. side.
Re-aligned the 2 small `peg markers`on the upper drive gear with the `hash mark` on the large carousel gear.
Re-assembled unit and started it up... the calibration process was about half way through when the printer began vibrating and grinding as the carousel turned. Again the gear jumped out of alignment by a few teeth.
There are remanufactered cartridges in this unit and the Yellow and Black carts have circular scratch marks on the ends.
Is this a known issue?...Is it just a matter of using HP carts.?...Is there some defect in one of the gear assemblies?...Thanks! MH

Yeah, these are really cheaply made, and wear on the teeth and drive gear will do this. Worth moving up to an in-line color unit, {2600} as the rotary style will always be a problem.

The alignment marks are not on the edges. The left one is inside the small curved indention, and the right one is below the letter K , inside of the gear.
It is not shown correctly in the manual, and HP confirms this, though no update to the manual regarding this issue.
I am working on a 2840 MFP, which is basically a 2550 engine.
Have found that the toner drive motor is bad, and after replacing the carousel, still had noise. I may just push it off my bench "accidentally":D
