Hi,

My work have given me a new laptop but it doesn't have a parallel port so I've bought a parallel to USB cable. I've connected it all up but the 2 devices aren't communicating.

Device manager says there is an unrecognised device on a USB port even though I have tried telling it where the drivers are.

I've tried going through the add new printer wizard but still no luck.

Any ideas? I assume there is a problem due to Windows XP not being aware of the possability of a HP LaserJet 4 Plus on a USB port?

Many Thanks
Lou

:) I've got a lot of experience with these dongles.
Got one for USB to harddrive, USB to SCSI, and USB to serial.
First, find out if the USB is ver 1.x or 2.0. I got sucked in on low priced 1.x USB adapters. They may or may not work in Xp.
If the drivers are ok then whatever is on the other end should show up in Xp as if it were connected directly.
In other words Xp should detect the Laserjet 4 seamlessly. Your dongle is defective!

dont use a usb cable with those machines, get yourself a jetdirect card and a crossover cable and set the printer as a IP printer.
