Remember the old HP4P?

I've replaced the paper pickup roller assembly and the fuser. I have completely disassembled the printer and cleaned it from one end to the other. I've lubed the gears, examined them for wear and replaced the worn out parts.

Still the paper will get about 1 inch out of the fuser and stop. The manual I have for the printer is a copy of a copy times about 50 so, the visuals are nonexistent to say the least.

Does anyone have any hints on what to check next?
