Have an HP4730 MFP Color copier, printer, fax....Display says "sending and copying disabled" . I installed NEW 37meg Hdd in the formatter. That cured the prob for 1 day. Also has latest firmware. Under diagnostics, i cannot get anything to operate in the scanner tests. example- lamp, scan motor, etc. I'm thinking formatter itself bad....? Any other ideas? Thanks, JonL.

Sounds like you know what you are doing.

Let's just rehash this.

After installing the drive you initialized it?
No errors displayed after the INIT.

After that you uploaded the firmware?

Sending is disabled.
I had a bad drive cable, but that caused INIT errors.
With the original drive you could send? Why did you change the drive?
Can you reinstall it and get the SEND feature back?

Go with your gut...formatter.

You have checked the cable from the MFP to the copy control board????

Yes init HDD....init completed, did firmware flash via ftp, it took....the reason I went initially with hdd is copy and send disabled.....the machine still printed from the network....the 37meg hdd is only used for copying and sending(fax)....so it was an educated guess. I'm going with my gut. The formatter relays control signals to the scanner/copyboard assy....so I'm hoping its that. If that doesnt do it, I'll go with scanner control board....after that.....hmmmm more hp techline time?.....and yes i rang out the cable from mfp to scanner....it's good. Regards, Jon L. Portland, OR
