Laserjet 5si Mopier hangs on INTERNAL TEST

I can't get the printer to finish the internal test at boot. I've tried removing the MIO and enxtra memory from the formatter board, but no change. It has the print server and disk.

Any ideas. With this condition you can't even get into Service Mode.

This is usually a firmware error. Do you get a memory count? Just stars?
You were right in removing other items, and it is possible that the HD could be the culprit. Remove it and boot up. If you have another 5si, just pull the whole formatter out and swap it in the first unit. If okay, try the firmwanre with it's formatter. Luck!
