won't align new cartridge: replaced color cartridge, goes through alignment cycle, fails: need to use printed, what do I do?

the ink for these units are probably expired. They do have a shelf life, and stores put them on the shelf anyways. Check the dates and return if they are not recent. Also make sure the contacts in the carriage are clean.
