hello. with my hp 5000 I got faded out prints beginning from the last inches of the page, something like that:
asdfghklò12344567548
asdfghklò12344567548
asdfghklò12344567548
asdfghklò12344567548
asdfghklò12344567548
no matter the level of the toner. this is happening also with hard RET and 5 density. could it be solved by changing the maintenance kit?
the printer life is 540.000 pages (can it last more?) and 125.000 since last maintenance.
thanks.

Does this happen with all print outs? Have you changed the cartridge out with a known good one? The maintenance interval for this printer is 150,000 pages. It is possible it could be the fuser. If this is happening on every print job, try a half page test. Put paper in the manual feed tray and send a test page to it. Once the end of the paper enters the printer open the top of the cover. Take out the toner. Is the defect on the paper? If so, the toner is the issue. If not, the fuser is the issue.

You could also try cleaning the mirror on the laser scanner.

it happens always no matter the toner cartridge (anyway always original ones).
it's happening on every page.
I'll try to do your test.
about cleaning the mirror...where is it located? can I do it myself quite easily?
thaks a lot.

Installing a new maintenance kit will most likely cure your problem. From the print sample, it looks like the transfer roller is failing or the contacts on the cartridge to the printer are corroded, you try to clean these with a pencil eraser.

The 5000 prints out in landscape, so it's probably on one side (not top to bottom!). Problem is probably a dirty polygon mirror in the laser unit. Take apart laser unit and clean mirrors and you should be good to go! David

Examine the fuser, check out the right end of it. Looks like it could be damaged.
It's easier to check that, before cleaning the mirror.
