I'm having a gosting issue on a HP 4100, with only 68,xxx total pages printed. I've checked the defects ruler and it looks to be the fuser. I'm very comfortable replacing parts myself, but before I order a new fuser (or kit) does anybody have any advise on how I can be sure its the fuser? I've already tried a new cartidge (genuine HP supplies only) and the problem just continued.

I've read the info at hp.com about ghosting, and according to them replacing parts isn't likely to help the problem, but that doesn't make sense to me.

Have you tried a new cartridge.
Ghosting can sometimes be a drum unit problem inside the cartridge.

It's the fuser, that's 75mm.

You can pull the fuser out and look at the rollers. You should be able to see the damage.

Thanks for the advice - turned out it was the fuser. I wasn't able to see any damage on the rollers, but a half-feed test confirmed there was no problem before the fuser.

I've already ordered/received/installed the maintenance kit, and its running like new.
