Default Mac won't recognise Canon printer...

I recently bought a new Canon printer. The MP140.
I only wanted to buy a cheap one as it is only for printing out text, but i know Canon is a good printer manufacturer.
I use a MacBook and its plugged in with a USB cable.

I installed the printer via the CD and it worked fine straight away.
I printed a few pages and was happy with the results.
However, i decided to change the name of the printer to something more obvious as i had a few different printer drivers still installed.

After this change it hasn't worked.

I thought if i deleted the drivers and all the files and reinstalled everything it would be back to normal, but now my computer wont recognise it.
It doesn't show up in the printer preferences.

Ive tried lots of different things but nothing seems to work.
Ive tried reinstalling everything (with the printer plugged in and with it unplugged), i've tried installing the most recent driver from Canon's website, resetting the printer system (printer setup utility), ive tried repairing permissions...

When i try to add a printer in the preferences is scans for printer drivers and can only find an Adobe PDF 9.0 (whatever that is).

I know the printer driver is there, but i don't understand why its not being recognised.

Ive just tried installing it on my girlfriends laptop and have the same results.
Im starting to think it might be a hardware problem...

If anyone has any information to help i'd be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance.

    Default *Fixed*

I managed to sort the problem.
I bought a new usb cable on the offchance that mine had failed.
(Not that ive ever had a usb cable fail before.)
    Everthing is working fine now.
