Thread: LaserJet 4014n OffLine

    Default LaserJet 4014n OffLine

I have an HP LaserJet 4014n on the network that will not print. The windows print dialoge popup continually shows the printer is offline.

I can ping the IP, the printer prints fine, no errors in the diagnostics. Simply continually shows OFF LINE... has any one had this issue? Any ideas?

Does it have a JetDirect card or an imbeded NIC RJ-45 port? If it has a plugged in JetDirect card it might be unseated. This happens sometimes. Reseat the card three or four times then try it again. In this case the card will talk to the network but not to the formatter. If the NIC is built into to the formatter (imbedded) then you might try shutting it down and reseating everything that goes into or plugs into the formatter.

Does the printer print a test page from the maintenance panel? What does the printout say about the status of the JetDirect card? Sometimes the test page calls it an EIO card. Does the IP address in the formatter match the one on the network?

Check out the Network Tutorial at the top of the forum list. It is very good!

Is this printer a new printer you are just trying to add to the network, or was the printer already on the network and just suddenly "dropped offline" ?

If you have a spare JetDirect card, try installing that ...
