    Default HP5550 sticking problem

    Hi all,

Happy President's weekend! My HP 5550 will print along okay on super short print jobs but does something weird on anything over 400 color pages. A bunch of pages will cling together as they pass through the printer and come out the other end with color smudging. They are statically charged and clinging and then it will print 10 or so good ones and clump together again. Is my fuser to blame?

    Thanks for your help!

    Default 5550 Sticking

    Hi Gina:
Assuming the static brushes in the printer are all in place then you might try a different kind of paper. The humidity in the room could be too low which would cause lots of static buildup. Check the power outlet to see if it is grounded. You will need an outlet tester, try a home center or a good hardware store, about $4, to make sure the outlet is grounded. Is the printer on a power strip? If so plug it directly into the wall and try it.

Are you saying that occasionally an entire clump of pages gets picked up and passes through the printer all at once, all passing through at the same time ? If more than one page gets grabbed then you should replace the feed/separation rollers and separation pad for the Trays ...

CS might be on to something.
    What's the page count?
