I just bought an HP 8000 for our office. It says it has 0 pages run through it. I am pretty sure the printer is actually new, since it came with all the orange shipping clips installed, and was spotless inside. When I print a configuration page, it will sometimes not reflect the presence of the installed NIC, J3113A. When it does reflect the presence of the NIC, the NIC doesn't configure properly. I have tried three different NICs, 2 - 600N, 1- 615N. All behaved the same way, 2 of them worked normally in other printers (didn't bother to test the third one).

I am assuming that the formatter board (like the main board in a computer, in case I have the wrong term) is bad. Considering the printer appears new, a bad main board seems a bit weird, but weird happens. Does this seem a reasonable conclusion? We are a non-profit, $$$ is tight, I'd prefer not to just buy a board and try it if there are other, simpler possibilities.

Thanks for your help, and no, I didn't find the printer in a dumpster!
