Lightbulb HP Laserjet 4200n - Print fading along right side of page

    Hi All,

I have a LJ4200n where the print is fading along the right side of the page. Toner cartridge is fine.

Any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

    Cheers in advance

It may be dirty mirrors in the laser scanner.I've also seen this caused by a broken clip onthe transfer roller or even a series of bad cartridges.

Print a page and lift the top cover while printing.

Pull the toner out and check the paper. If it's faded it's got to be the cartridge. If not faded, look at the fuser.

It could be a faulty laser as well, but we come to that avenue when tried all those suggestions first, also check the mirrors as these other techs said as well, if they are dirty clean them.

The transfer roller could be misaligned as well, reinstall that.

Do a half test, to check if its not the fuser at fault, if there is print on the drum or page then its the fuser, check the drum if print is on the drum, if there is no print on that part of the drum then there is a blockage on that part of the scanner unit, clean the scanner assembly.

The half test will vertify if the printer is writting onto the drum properly, this is the writing and developing stage of the EP process, transfering is toner onto paper via a transfer roller and fusing is with the fuser there is 5 stages of EP.

Default Simular problem, lots of trouble shooting.

We have a HP4300dtn. The printing is faded in stripes along the left side ofthe page about 2 inches apart. It started just after some office help replaced a toner cartrige. We assumed it was just a bad cartrige. We replaced the cartrige with a new one. When the didn't help, we replaced the fuser. If you look at two printed pages, the areas affected are not in the same place. We did the half test and the defect shows up on pages that are just going through the toner cartrige.

There is a foam rubber roller along the paper path just outside of the toner cartrige. On the same side as the printing defect, there is a lot of spilled toner. Could the roller be forcing the paper into something and rubbing the toner off before it gets to the fuser?

    Default Fading

    1st: HP toner? 3rd party?
    Is it seated correctly?
The transfer roller itself may be very dirty from toner spill\build-up.
Take it out by lifting the left side and pull to the left. Wipe it with a soft cloth, dragging from one side to the other all the way around.
Lift up the registration flap and check for toner there too.
Open rear door and look at the fusers left side. Film may be going bad, and \or peeling off. Give it a go, and let us know!

    Default fading

We had several 4200's with a similar issue

    1. Toner - replace with NEW HP toner

    2. Fuser - replace with metal fuser replacement as ends of fuser will start to wear and crack

we use the printertechs maint kit which - includes the transfer roller and pickups etc.

This has corrected the problem on at least 5 production 4200's we have.
