Default HP PSC 950xi complains of paper jam - not true!

    Hello,

My printer has the above mentioned problem and for the life of me cannot find problem.

Am assuming a sensor is on the fritz. Am also ready to rip the machine apart but would like a tad of guidance first... Thanks!

Update, the rollers do NOT spin freely when the power is off.
The HP support site says that they should!

Probably more serious than a shard of paper 'stuck' somewhere.

I inherited the printer with the problem and mysteriously, it started working for perhaps 20 sheets of print then, the problem kicked in again.

But not really sure I want to have someone look at it since the repair could be as much (or close to) just buying a new one; hence, I'm here to see if someone can push me in the right 'do-it-yourself' direction

sounds like you may have had a paper jam prior and may have pulled the paper at a critical point which could cause the feed clutch or sensor to be moved out of alignment .
If you can find a tech for a free estimate they can tell right away.
Yes will cost just as much to fix then buying a new one.
Maybe the tech will be nice and fix for free.
