You don't need to be in service mode to get the page count. Just tap the 'menu' key until 'information' comes up, then print the config page.

You can get the serial number on the back of the printer. The formatter number 'may' be printed on the formatter itself. It's easy to pull out on the 4100. You'll need to be in service mode to set...
