I have replaced about a dozen formatters on 4250n and 4350n printers, and each time, the embedded I/O disappears.
I have tried every method that I know of to prevent this anomaly, including:

Hopefully it is not a H/V problem...
I have heard rumours of counterfeit HP toner cartridges from China...
So, I would have to think that could be a bad toner cartridge.
I have been repairing...
Does aybody know the correct procedure for replacing a formatter in an "N" version of an HP 4250 or 4350?
I have done the "install, power up, wait 5 minutes" thing, and
tried NV Ram Init, cold...
I did the upgrade before I placed the printer...
I wonder if the FW upgrade is the issue?
I have an HP LJ P3005dn that only duplexes if the printer is connected via a USB cable!
If I connect it through an ethernet cable, it will not duplex.
Anybody else seen this?

If the feed roller is good, there is a good chance that the paper feed assembly is failing...
In any case, the printer is an old veteran...
it might be time to bury it and get a newer HP model!

Paper will curl if it is too damp.
Try opening up a new ream of paper and see if the curling lessens.
If not, try a good quality 20 pound paper like Hammermill.

If you do not need color, get an HP 9000 or 9050 LaserJet.
This printer is about 50 pages per minute, BUT

I have a 9000 in the field with about 5 million pages...
I had a slow printing problem with ethernet, using the PCL6 driver on an HP LaserJet P3005 printer.
When the PCL5 driver was used, the problem disappeared.
I had a situation wher I had about 20 feet of USB and could not print.
When I shortened the length to 15 feet, it printed O.K.
Here is what I do, as primitive as it sounds, keep in mind that I have serviced 2,000 printers and copiers over the last 24 years...
Unplug the printer, being careful that no paper is going to be...
Could this be a case where the driver setup option "share printer" is the answer?
Just a thought... I'm probably WAY OFF BASE.
Get the right cable... it goes from the computer to the 8100. The cable end at the computer in standard parallel, but the connection at the 8100 printer end is an uncommon connector. (IEEE...
There is a plastic lever on the fuser that trips when paper comes out of it.
If it is damaged, paper will get about an inch out and stop/jam...
Look closely at the fuser and look for the sensor...
Try re-seating the formatter, jetdirect card and any dimms on it.(firmware and/or memory).
I have seen this problem and have had success doing this.
You would be wise to clean all applicable...
Off the bat, If the supplies in the machine are not OEM HP brand, I would start there.
or
look up the "nv ram init" procedure...
I have solved some really weird problems by doing this.
Good Luck
I have downloaded HP's JetDirect firmware files onto my XP computer so that I can attempt to do "local" mode upgrading, but there does not seem to be a Windows 2000 firmware bundle or download...
