Having kind of an odd problem with an old Laserjet 5SI (has nearly 800,000 pages on it). Keep having a problem with black lines being printed on the page. At first there are two of them both about 1/2" wide and about three inches apart. This starts happening around 1500 pages into a new toner cartridge. If you let it go long enough it will print an entire black page. Replace the toner cartridge and everything goes back to normal for another 1500 pages or so.

I've installed a maintenance kit and thoroughly cleaned the printer to no avail. It's long out of warranty so out corporate hardware guys won't touch it.

Anything that can be done for this printer, or is it time to just give it up?

Are you using, "new" toner cartridges or, "re-manufactured" toner cartridges?

New, but they are not HP. They are Lexmark cartridges, see the link below for details. They have other 5SI's that they are using the same in without a problem.

I would try using an HP cartridge and see if it happens then.
