Hello all, I have a a slight problem convincing a staff member here that installing a local print server will not help the problem he is having. I will attempt to explain the layout.

4- epson stylus 1280 printers networked with hp jetdirect 500X print servers.
print jobs spool on the print server located in the server room.
staff member is printing photoshop .tif files that average 30-60mb each to the printers.

staff member wonders why it takes forever to print.

now the staff member would like to have us install a local print server, he believes that this will speed up the print jobs, I don't think this will solve his problem.

short of replacing the printers with ones that are designed to be networked, is there anything we can do to speed up the printing?

Thanks

30-60MB?? That's pretty big, add a ton of memory to the printers if you can. Why not try a test with a parallel or USB cable if available and see how long it takes to print? Putting a print server on locally problably won't change anything. The limitting factor is problobly the printer's processor and memory not the speed at which the data is getting to the printer. But testing is the ony way to really find out.
