scanner error problem

i have 3330 laser jet hp

after turning on the machine the scanner display warming up bulb message
after 3 minutes a scanner error message with trun off turn on show up

any idea

Old unit, old problem. The laser can be removed, and cleaned, and then re-calibrated, but it is a big job to do. Two small areas on the mirrors get fogged, and it will not calibrate itself. If you do this job, turn over scanner, and look at the outside ends of mirror. Clean these two small areas, and re-assemble. Plug in unit, and when the scanner moves out , pull the plug. Do this at least five times to get the scanner moving out at least halfway. It should re-calibrate itself.
