I have an HP 5740 Deskjet printer, which takes cartridge #s 94 and 95. I have those in the printer, but when I try to print something, I get a message that the wrong cartridge is installed. The status light for the color cartridge (#94) is flashing and continues to flash no matter what I do. As long as the printer is turned on, the light flashes. I have taken the cartridge out and cleaned it. Even when the cartridge is removed, the light flashes. The status light for the black and white cartridge (#95) does not flash when the cartridge is removed.

I had also purchased a new cartridge, but that didn't help either.

Is something stuck? Is the printer broken? Do I need a new printer? Or is this something easily fixed?

Are you using HP ink? Check the date on the box. They do have a shelf life, and you should always check for the newest date, as suppliers put expired stuff on the shelf anyways. Third party ink is hit and miss at best, so if you have a decent vendor, try returning the bad ink.
