I have a color LaserJet 8500DN that persistently gives a very generic paper input jam every 5 or 6 pages. I have checked the paper path and it is clear. I performed several paper path tests via the service menu and sometimes they run without problems and other times the paper will stop. I then go to the Sensor Test and find that PS17 is open. I clear the paper from right in front of the registration area and PS17 closes. This happens from trays 2, 3, and 4. Is PS17 part of the paper pick-up unit?

I'm not sure how to narrow the problem down between the pick-up assembly or the registration assembly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello,

Have you tried replacing the paper pick up rollers, feed rollers, etc.... Many times this is the cause of paper jams. I work for tech srvs for a school district and I mainly work on HP LJ 4050, 4100 CLJ 4600 and CLJ 8500. I have bought repair kits to fix all these in the past. Here is link to fix common parts that wear out on the 8500.

Thanks
