I have a 4650n that I have setup tray 1 as Legal paper, yet whenever I send a job to it (and I have gone into the printer settings and have picked Tray 1 and Legal Paper)the printer keeps asking for letter-size paper. Has anyone ran into this before?

Both the unit, and the driver? Check the Print server driver, as well as any users drivers for this unit.

Well it's not the driver. I had the drivers reloaded and that still didn't fix the problem.

I think that the problem is not the paper sensor in tray1. PS2 is controlled by the DC controller and just tells it there is paper. There is no size detection for tray 1. Trying NVRAM Init will result in a lot of things needing to be input. I would try re-seating the formatter and/or firmware update.

Phil,
Just a thought, but are you aware that the fold down MP tray is considered to be tray 1 and the top cassette is tray 2?

Of course! Tray two becomes tray one, it has a double feed assy. I think what your getting at is tray 2 should be set to legal, to use tray one? Just put legal in tray 2! You still have to select trays in the driver when you print the job. Extra steps mean extra savvy. It's just HP's new confusionation.

Well I had the user try to use tray 2 for legal and the printer was still asking for letter. She was able to print to another 4650n on the floor with no problem. I'm just going to order a Formatter PCA and see if that fixes the problem.
