I gotta change the swing plate assembly (RM1-0043-060) in this 4250.

I have the part, but I can't find any text on the removal and replacement of said part. Does anyone have any directions on what has to be removed to get this thing out of the printer?

Thnx in advance

Replacing the swing plate assembly is pretty hard but I usually find that it's only the gear that drives the fuser that has to be replaced.
To remove this gear you only need to remove one screw, you access this screw by removing the side panel and the frame that houses the formatter board, there is a small hole through which you can get at the screw.

Thanks Brian, I'll give it a shot this morning.

Brian, I owe you...big time.
All the techs that I work with were telling me to prepare to be on site for at least 4 hours.

Well, I did it your way and I wrapped it up in 20 minutes. It should have taken 10 minutes, but I dropped the threaded sleave for the gear into the machine. But that's another story.

The Western Regional manager wanted to know how I did it so fast.
Now he wants me to email all the techs in the company and let them know how to knock 3 hours off the swing plate replacement.

Also wanted to know if you needed a job.

I'm glad I could help.
Thanks for the offer of a job but I live in Holland and the travel time would be a bit prohibitting.

If you ever have to replace the whole swing plate, go to Parts Now's website and look in the Service Today articles for the replacement procedure. It only took me about an hour from start to finish to install it! David

I just looked at Parts Now directions for the 'swing plate'.

I'll stick with Brian's fix of just removing the worn gear, thanks anyway:eek:

The last sentence says "if the fuser drive gear still slips the engine must be replaced".

What engine are they referring to?

what's the solution if the printer your working on has a serial number that doesn't fit into the ones that are listed?

Nice! The new part just has a black plastic disc added, and stops the wobbling. Thanks for the tip on just putting in the one gear. Saves me a lot of time!
Re: "engine" = ECU main board.

Redcow,

Don't replace the next time the complete assy, order the assy and only use the gear. That brings the working hours back to about 5 quaters of a hour

Thanks Will. That's just what I did.
